A high-powered FIFA delegation led by Head of Competitions Jamie Yarza will be visiting India between February 14 to 20 to evaluate the preparations for next year's U-17 World Cup. The inspection is scheduled to start from Kochi on Feb 15 followed by Goa, Mumbai, Kolkata, Guwahati and finally ending in New Delhi.
This is the first time a full delegation from FIFA is coming for a detailed inspection. The team will be inspecting the Jawaharlal Nehru stadium in the city, which will be the match venue, and all the designated training sites to evaluate India's preparation for the FIFA U-17 World Cup to be held in September-October next year.
Besides Yarza, the FIFA dignitaries will include FIFA Competitions Department Tracy Lu, FIFA Competitions Department Felipe Restrepo, FIFA Competitions Department Vijay Parthasarathy, FIFA Marketing Christina Hollerl, FIFA Media Jochem Steinhoff, FIFA TV Paul Calder, FIFA Ticketing Jean Pierre Koeltgen, FIFA Senior Development Manager Mike Pfister and FIFA Development Officer Shaji Prabhakaran.
India had bagged the hosting rights of the U-17 World Cup in December, 2013. This will be the first time India will host an international football competition at a worldwide level.
