As part of the initiatives to encourage non-motorized transport in Kochi, Kochi Metro Rail Ltd. (KMRL) is launching the public bike sharing system under which commuters can use bicycles free of cost to travel short distance within the city limits. KMRL MD Elias George will inaugurate the public bike sharing system on World Environment Day - 5th June 2017 near the cycle rack arranged at Marine drive. This program is done in collaboration with Athi's Bicycle Club (ABC).
The aim of this project is to provide commuters free short-distance cycle rides in the Greater Kochi Region. KMRL is taking the initiative to develop non-motorized transportation (NMT) facilities and set up dedicated cycle paths, pedestrian corridors, and walkway-cum-recreational spaces.
The locations of the racks are opposite Gateway Hotel at Menaka, at South railway station on Vivekananda Road next to station entrance, at North railway station under the bridge and at Kaloor opposite private bus stand, Kaloor -Kadavanthra Road.
